A senior senior NATO official told Reuters on Thursday that a number of coalition forces had conducted strikes inside Afghanistan, including four near U.S. facilities, but could not provide details about any specific strikes.

NATO said in a statement the U.S. and Afghan forces “collapsed” in Kabul on Wednesday after “a series of coordinated and coordinated attacks”. They were unable to retake government headquarters, the statement added.

NATO and U.S. troops have been conducting joint operations inside Afghanistan for nearly 10 years, but on Wednesday NATO said it did not have more than five such cases of civilian casualties a day since May 2010.
