Sony has officially announced September’s additions to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogues, with RuneScape: Dragonwilds, WWE 2K26 and Ball x Pit leading another strong month.

As has become the norm recently, the games are being spread across several dates rather than arriving together. Date Everything! is already available, RuneScape: Dragonwilds and WWE 2K26 arrive on September 15, and the rest will be released in two more batches on September 22 and September 29. Why this weird release strategy? Who the hell knows. I’m not even convinced Sony knows.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is arguably the biggest addition, arriving on PlayStation 5 as the co-operative survival spin-off leaves early access. Set on the forgotten continent of Ashenfall, it combines building, crafting and exploration with familiar RuneScape creatures, skills and magic, culminating in a fight against the Dragon Queen.

WWE 2K26 joins it on September 15, bringing more than 400 playable wrestlers and Legends. This year’s Showcase centres on CM Punk and plays around with an alternate version of wrestling history in which the Voice of the Voiceless never left WWE.

Ball x Pit and Slitterhead will follow on September 22. The former is a fast-paced roguelite about launching magical balls into hordes of monsters while rebuilding the unfortunately named city of Ballbylon. Slitterhead is the far stranger option, casting you as a bodiless entity capable of possessing humans while hunting monsters hiding among the population of Kowlong.

Of everything being added, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is the one I’m most excited to finally try. When it and Sega’s Shinobi: Art of Vengeance arrived within about a month of each other last year, I wound up reviewing Shinobi instead. That was the beautifully animated platformer starring legendary ninja Joe Musashi. Joe. The ninja was called Joe. Brilliant.

Ragebound comes from The Game Kitchen, the team behind Blasphemous, and mixes the side-scrolling gameplay of the original Ninja Gaiden games with ideas and intensity borrowed from the modern 3D entries. It’ll arrive alongside Dungeons of Hinterberg and Sniper Elite: Resistance on September 29.

Speaking of Sniper Elite: Resistance, it’s a very fun example of exactly why double-A gaming is so bloody good. As I said in my 4/5 review, it’s essentially more Sniper Elite 5 wearing a slightly different coat, but the huge levels and excellent long-range shooting still make it a damn good time. Plus, you shoot even more Nazis in the dick.

It’s another very respectable month, then. The bizarrely staggered release schedule makes it slightly more complicated than it needs to be, but there’s a healthy mixture of major releases, interesting smaller games and a couple of excellent examples of why not everything needs to cost £70 and take eight years to make.
