UK Boxed Videogame Chart is Dominated by Zelda, Zelda and Zelda

Unsurprisingly The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is absolutely dominating the UK sales chart, as reported by data specialists GFK. Before we delve into the numbers it’s important to remember that this data only covers sales of physical copies of games over the past week, which means it can be quite different from the digital sales chart.

So, obviously, Tears of the Kingdom is holding onto the top slot despite sales going down by 73%. I know that sounds substantial, but we actually see similar drops with most big, heavily hyped releases because so many people buy it on day one. Remember, Nintendo already announced that Tears of the Kingdom sold 10 million copies in just 3 days, and it’s the biggest-selling physical game of the year thus far, beating out previous champ Hogwarts Legacy by a whopping 50%. In other words, the majority of people who wanted to get it probably already have it.

The success of Link’s latest adventure has boosted his last one, too: Breath of the Wild is up another 21% over last week, helping to keep it in the 8th spot. Meanwhile, Skyward Sword HD has catapulted up to 14th thanks to an insane 342% rise in sales which seems to be attributed to ASDA selling it for £15. That also means Nintendo currently has three Zelda games in the top 20. Not too shabby.

In terms of newcomers, 2K LEGO Drive has entered the charts in 7th. Not exactly a massive launch but considering the dull name and lack of hype, I don’t think it’s anything to be disappointed by. It’s done decently in terms of critical reception, too, holding down a 73 on Opencritic.

Pokemon Scarlet managed to clamber up to 6th from 16th which might have been at least partially due to a promotion on Amazon.

Here’s the top 20.
