Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Has Already Sold Over 10 Million Copies

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is already the most highly reviewed game on Opencritic which you might think would surely be enough of an accolade, but no! Now, Nintendo of America has revealed that Link’s latest adventure has sold 10 million copies in just 3 days and has probably sold another few million since that announcement.

According to Nintendo, this not only makes Tears of the Kingdom the fastest-selling Zelda game in history but also the fastest-selling Nintendo game EVER in America.

Unfortunately, it’s a little harder to figure out exactly where that puts Tears of the Kingdom in terms of the fastest-selling games of all time. According to a Watchmojo article, the title holder is Grand Theft Auto V which they claim managed to shift around 11 million copies in just 24 hours. Considering GTA V is the second best-selling game of all time, I could easily believe that.

We can, however, do some fun and utterly pointless math. Currently, the Nintendo Switch is the third highest-selling console of all time, with 125 million out in the wild. That means 8% of those Switch owners have bought a copy of Tears of the Kingdom which is incredibly impressive. Now obviously that’s an estimation because many of those consoles won’t even be actively used anymore or are repeat purchases and so on, but no matter how you at the numbers Tears of the Kingdom is selling better than an energy drink at an All You Can Bonk for Free day at a brothel.

It’s also even more impressive when you consider that Grand Theft Auto V was a multiplatform title, whereas Tears of the Kingdom is only available on a single console.
