Look, December, you can’t just sneak up on a chap like this. It’s really rather rude. But at least the dawning of December means it’s time for another batch of free PS Plus monthly games. It’s quite a bit batch, too, as we’re being given a whopping 5 games, all of which will be available from December 5 to download and keep, provided you have a valid subscription.
This month’s headliner is Lego Horizon Adventures (PS5), the Horizon game that sort of…happened. It launched on the Nintendo Switch as well, and yet despite the Horizon name and releasing on multiple platforms, it barely sold and had incredibly low player numbers on Steam.
“Join machine hunter Aloy as she leads a colourful crew of heroes on a quest to save the world and learn the secrets of her past. Dive into boundless adventure, customize to your heart’s content, and take on action-packed battles solo or with friends.”
Check out my review for it here.
Killing Floor 3 (PS5) is up next, a game that released in July of this year. It came from a series with a relatively small but dedicated fanbase, but those same fans were not happy with the third game’s changes which resulted in low sales. That’s undoubtedly why it has appeared as a freebie on PlayStation so soon after its launch.
“It’s 2091 and megacorp Horzine has produced the ultimate army: an obedient horde of bioengineered monsters called zeds. Now, join the rebel group Nightfall in this co-op action/horror FPS that puts you and your teammates in a battle for the future of humanity.” says the official blur.
The Outlast Trials (PS4, PS5) is the third game being offered, a horror title that reviewed well and that people seem to have a lot of love for, as the “Very Positive” Steam rating attests to.
“Red Barrels invites you to experience mind-numbing terror, this time with friends. Whether you go through the trials alone or in teams, if you survive long enough and complete the therapy, Murkoff will happily let you leave… but will you be the same?”
Synduality Echo of Ada (PS5) is, I have to admit, a game I have zero knowledge about. After some research, it seems to be a sci-fi third-person action extraction shooter, but with an emphasis on being able to play solo as well. In what seems to be a bit of a trend for this month’s games, it wasn’t received all that well and barely made a dent in terms of sales.
“In this PvPvE extraction shooter, players, aided by an AI partner known as a Magus, must survive against xenomorphic creatures and other players in the hunt for resources.”
Neon White (PS4, PS5) is the final entry for this month, and has a much better reputation. This self-proclaimed speed-running FPS holds a critic score of 89, a user score of 90 and a Steam user rating of “Overwhelmingly Positive”.
“Neon White is a single-player speedrunning FPS where you can sacrifice your guns for godlike parkour moves.”
