The National Fire Service has declared a mandatory fire ban at Mt Hamilton and several other townships following a devastating fire that destroyed 200 dwellings.

About 200 homes were destroyed and at least four people were killed in the blaze at Mt Hamilton Road, which took three hours to extinguish, the National Emergency Services Agency (Nesca) reported.

The blaze also disrupted transport operations at Port Douglas and the airport in Dunedin.

Emergency crews had been battling the blaze from the start.

Nesca regional manager David Wilson told a press conference the fire was about 6 kilometres to the south of the Mt Hamilton Road roadhead at about 8.45am.

He said that fire engines were called to the fire as early as 4am on Tuesday and could still be fighting the blaze in the town of Wellington and on Port Douglas Island, as well as around Mount Hamilton Road.

The road between Mt Hamilton and Wellington was closed.

Firefighters used air tankers and fire boats to put out the flames.

Nesca was asked for assistance from 로투스 홀짝Wellington city council by the State Emergency Services Agency to help with the fire suppression and other needs related to the blaze.

In an update at 9.30am on Wednesday morning, the emergency services agency said a “widespread” of structural damage was to two small houses in Dunedin, with five more still threatened.

No one was immediately injured in the fire or injuries 김천출장마사지suffered by locals and firefighters.

Firefighters in Wellington were urged to avoid the areas around Mt Hamilton Road as a result of the smoke.

New South Wales Premier Mike Baird described the fire as a “massive catastrophic accident”.
