Nintendo officially addresses Switch 2 existence and when we can expect an announcement

Nintendo
has
directly
addressed
the
Switch
2
ahead
of
its
Nintendo
Direct
even
in
June,
including
details
of
when
we
can
expect
a
full
announcement.

Nintendo
President
Furukawa
made
the
announcement
on
X.
He
says
“We
will
make
an
announcement
about
the
successor
to
Nintendo
Switch
within
this
fiscal
year.”

Nintendo’s
current
fiscal
year
ends
in
March
in
2025.
This
lines
up
with
various
reports
suggesting
the
next
iteration
of
the
Switch,
which
is
what
the
new
console
is
widely
believed
to
be,

was
pushed
back
to
2025.

The
original
Nintendo
Switch
launched
in
March
of
2017.
Based
on
the
timeline
Nintendo’s
President
has
given
us,
would
an
official
reveal
late
this
year/early
2025
be
on
the
cards
for
a
March
2025
release,
just
in
time
for
the
start
of
Nintendo’s
new
fiscal
year?

Quite
likely
because
of
the
amount
of
information
that
has
leaked
about
Nintendo’s
next
console
,
Furukawa
smartly
tempers
expectations,
clearly
stating
that
the
Switch
2
(which
I
still
hope
will
be
called
the
Super
Switch)
will
not
be
mentioned
during
the
June
presentation.

“We
will
be
holding
a
Nintendo
Direct
this
June
regarding
the
Nintendo
Switch
software
lineup
for
the
latter
half
of
2024,
but
please
be
aware
that
there
will
be
no
mention
of
the
Nintendo
Switch
successor
during
that
presentation.”

Nintendo’s
latest
financial
results
have
also
been
released
today,
with
no
mention
of
the
new
hardware.

In
essence
then,
Furukawa
announced
that
there
won’t
be
an
announcement
in
June.
Still,
to
the
best
of
my
knowledge
this
is
the
first
time
Nintendo
has
directly
addressed
the
new
console.
