Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Will Not Have Co-op, Confirms Insomniac

Speculation that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, rumoured to be launching at the end of the year, will feature some sort of co-op mode has been swirling since it was first revealed. The fact that it would star both Peter Parker and Miles Morales swinging around instantly got people thinking, and then some Internet sleuths found files in the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man that referenced co-op.

But things got more interesting when a Reddit user named rqhany highlighted comments made back in 2022 by Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter. Speaking at a panel at SacAnime, Jeter was asked if the upcoming sequel would feature co-op to which he replied, “I don’t know if it’s been announced or not, but I think so.”

You can find his comments at the 5-minute mark, as well as his discussion of their being symbiotes everywhere.

However, developer Insomniac has quite quickly shut down the speculation. Replying to a fan asking about co-op on Twitter, Insomniac replied, Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure.”

It’s not the first time Insomniac has been quite precise in its use of the term single-player either. In the game’s announcement post on the official Playstation blog Ryan Schneider, Insomniac’s head of franchise strategy, said “We’re so thrilled to continue the journey of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in their most epic single-player adventure yet”.

Assuming Insomniac isn’t just lying in order to keep co-op a surprise, it looks more like the campaign will involve swapping between the two Spider-Men at various points, or could even allow players to swap whenever they like.

I’m confident we will learn more in just a few days at the big Playstation Showcase. Everything appears to be pointing at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launching toward the end of the year, so the Showcase would be the perfect place to give us the first proper look at the gameplay and I honestly cannot wait to see what Insomniac has been working on.
