New sales data shows that Ghost of Yotei has already managed to outsell Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Shadows on PS5.
The data comes from Alinea Analytics, so as always, do take it with a pinch of salt.
In the latest newsletter, Rhys Ellison reveals that Ghost of Yotei has now hit around 2.5 million copies sold as it finishes up its third week on the market. That means it has sold about another million copies since Alinea published initial sales data a few weeks ago. At the time, Alinea noted that Ghost of Yotei had already earned its development budget back on just the 2nd day of sales.
But the really fun stat that Rhys Ellison revealed is that Sucker Punch’s Japanese adventure about taking revenge on a group of masked men has beaten Ubisoft’s Japanese adventure about taking revenge on a group of masked men. Yeah, it’s a bit weird we had two big-budget open-world games with almost the exact same story premise launch in the same year.
In terms of overall sales, AC: Shadows is supposedly sitting at 4.3 million copies sold, a pretty soft figure considering how much Ubisoft was betting on its success. Obviously, Ghost of Yotei cannot compete with that, especially since it’s locked to a singular console. But if zoom in to that singular console, Alinea is reporting Shadows has sold 2.4 million copies.
Here’s the real kicker, though: it took Shadows seven months to achieve that figure, while Ghost of Yotei has done it in just three weeks.
Still, Ghost of Yotei has a long way to go yet if it wants to beat its predecessor. Ghost of Tsushima had surpassed 13 million copies sold, last we heard back in September of 2024.
