Years
after
his
creation
and
studio
Mojang
to
Microsoft
for
an
impressive
$2.5
billion,
Minecraft
creator
Markus
“Notch”
Persson
has,
in
his
words,
“basically
announced
minecraft
2.”
The
casual
announcement
came
via
X
after
Markus
posted
a
poll
asking
fans
what
they
would
like
him
to
work
on.
The
options
included
carrying
on
working
on
a
“traditional
roguelike”
with
“tile-based
first-person”
gameplay,
or
whether
he
should
ditch
that
idea
in
favour
of
a
Minecraft
successor.
I
basically
announced
minecraft
2.I
thought
that
maybe
people
ACTUALLY
do
want
me
to
make
another
game
that’s
super
similar
to
the
first
one,
and
I’m
loving
working
on
games
again.I
don’t
super
duper
care
exactly
which
game
I
make
first
(or
even
if
I
make
more),
but
I
do
know…—

Replying
to
a
fan
after
the
poll
was
done,
Notch
provided
a
lengthy
tweet
revealing
that
a
spiritual
follow-up
to
Minecraft
is
in
the
works.
“I
basically
announced
minecraft
2,”
Notch
told
the
user.
“I
thought
that
maybe
people
ACTUALLY
do
want
me
to
make
another
game
that’s
super
similar
to
the
first
one,
and
I’m
loving
working
on
games
again.”
“I
don’t
super
duper
care
exactly
which
game
I
make
first
(or
even
if
I
make
more),
but
I
do
know
I’m
making
one,
so
I
figured
I’d
absolutely
be
willing
to
give
it
an
honest
shot
in
the
form
of
a
spiritual
successor
to
minecraft
and
put
up
a
poll
about
it.”
Notch
goes
on
to
say
we
wants
to
be
“clear
and
honest
about
it”
because
spiritual
successors
“are
usually
kind
of…you
know…washed
up.”
Notch
admits
that
he’s
a
bit
afraid
his
new
game
will
end
up
being
exactly
that.
Notch,
of
course,
hasn’t
released
a
game
since
he
sold
Mojang
to
Microsoft
over
a
decade
ago,
despite
creating
a
new
studio.
That
sale
is
also
the
reason
the
new
game
cannot
be
called
Minecraft
2.
While
the
new
game
will
essentially
be
Minecraft
2,
Notch
does
make
i
very
clear
that
he
won’t
be
stepping
on
Mojang’s
toes:
“so
I
also
intend
to
do
this
in
a
way
that
in
no
way
tried
to
sneakily
infringe
on
the
incredible
work
the
Mojang
team
is
doing
and
that
Microsoft
is
successfully
doing
the
microsoft
shittification
about.”
