Insider Teases Injustice 3: Netherealms’ Next Move

It
seems
like
Netherealms
might
be
returning
to
the
Injustice
universe
for
a
3rd
game,
eight
years
after
Injustice
2.
Well,
that’s
what
an
insider
appears
to
be
teasing,
at
any
rate.

Multiversusie
was
a
notable
leaker
of
all
tings
Multiverse,
Warner
Brother’s
doomed
cross-franchise
fighting
game.
Multiversusie
seemed
to
have
a
very
reliable
source
for
the
game,
indicating
someone
inside
either
the
development
team
or
Warner
Brothers
was
slipping
information.

Now,
though,
Multiversusie
seems
to
be
hinting
that
the
developers
of
the

Mortal
Kombat

series
are
returning
to
the
Injustice
games.
In
a
tweet
on
X,
Multiversusie
described
as
the
shuttering
of
Multiversus
as
an
“injustice”
and
then
went
on
to
use
the
term
twice
more.

“multiversus
shutting
down
is
an
injustice,
then
doing
it
all
again
is
another
injustice
leaving
me
without
any
leaks
is
yet
again
another
injustice”

Then
Multiversusie
replied
to
the
tweet,
simply
saying:
“3”

The
hint
seems
to
be
quite
clear:
Injustice
3
is
happening.

It
would
be
an
interesting
move
for
Netherealms.
Mortal
Kombat
is
by
far
its
biggest
series,
with

Mortal
Kombat
11

selling
over
15
million
copies.
However,
Netherealms
opted
to
follow
that
up
with
another
MK
game
straight
away
in
2024.

Mortal
Kombat
1

introduced
yet
another
timeline
into
the
series.
Earlier
this
year,
we
learned
that
it
has
sold
over
5
million
copies,
which
is
still
impressive
but
seems
slower
than
MK11,
indicating
some
series
fatigue.
Mortal
Kombat
1’s
expansion
was
also
reported
to
have
done
very
poorly.

In
fact,
it
was
rumoured
to
have
done
so
badly
that
it
resulted
in
a
future
story
expansion
being
canned.

Fans
are
also
under
the
impression
that
support
for
Mortal
Kombat
1
is
over

due
to
the
release
of
a
complete
edition
that
bundles
all
of
the
content
together
into
one
package.

It
makes
sense
why
Netherealm
and
Warner
Brothers
wants
to
return
to
Injustice,
then.
However,
the
DC
fighting
game
series
has
historically
not
sold
anywhere
near
as
well.
No
official
figures
were
released,
but
Injustice
2
was
estimate
to
have
sold
2-3
million
copies.
Keep
in
mind
that
DC
also
takes
its
cut
of
the
sales.

If
there
truly
is
Mortal
Kombat
fatigue,
though,
then
Netherealm
may
not
have
a
choice.
Making
another
Mortal
Kombat
might
result
in
even
lower
sales,
and
right
now
Warner
Brothers
is
already
struggling
and
has
even
consider
selling
its
gaming
division.
Netherealm
can’t
simply
do
nothing,
and
they
don’t
have
any
other
franchises
to
work
on
unless
they
want
to
resurrect
a
Mortal
Kombat
spin-off
like
Shaolin
Monks.
That
leaves
them
with
either
making
a
brand-new
IP
or
go
back
to
Injustice.
