At
CES
2025
Sony
Productions
announced
that
they
are
currently
working
on
a
Helldivers
movie,
which
is
confusing
because
a
Helldivers
movie
already
exists.
It’s
called
Starship
Troopers
and
it’s
amazing.
Alright,
obviously
I
jest.
Although
it
is
kind
of
funny
that
Helldivers
is
getting
a
movie
when
Helldivers
the
game
is
already
heavily
influenced
by
the
Starship
Troopers
movie,
which
of
course
was
also
based
on
the
original
book.
So
we’re
getting
a
movie
based
on
a
game
that
was
based
on
a
movie
which
was
based
on
a
book.
Joking
aside,
Asad
Qizilbash,
head
of
PlayStation
Productions,
said:
“Looking
ahead
as
to
what
might
come
next,
I’m
excited
to
announce
we
are
working
with
Sony
Pictures
on
developing
a
film
adaptation
of
our
amazingly
popular
PlayStation
game
Helldivers
2.”
The
announcement
was
made
alongside
the
news
that
Horizon
Zero
Dawn
is
also
getting
made
into
a
full-fledged
film.
Helldivers
2
turned
out
to
be
a
surprise
smash-hit
when
it
released
in
early
2024,
managing
to
sell
12
million
copies
in
just
12
weeks,
making
it
the
fastest
selling
PlayStation
game
ever.
And
becoming
a
culture
powerhouse
where
it
seemed
like
everyone
was
was
signing
up
to
fight
for
Super
Earth.
It
even
made
it
into
my
top
games
of
the
year
list.
While
it
has
had
a
issues,
it’s
currently
going
through
a
bit
of
a
resurgence
thanks
to
the
new
Omens
of
Tyranny
updated
which
added
a
third
enemy
faction
into
the
game.
Honestly,
I’m
quite
excited
by
the
idea
of
a
Helldivers
movie.
Maybe
it’s
too
obvious
or
derivative,
but
in
my
head
it
would
have
a
very
Starship
Troopers
vibe,
something
which
even
the
Starship
Troopers
sequels
failed
to
capture.
It’d
probably
be
hard
to
do,
but
I’d
personally
love
it
if
the
film
didn’t
follow
a
single
Helldiver
but
instead
followed
a
series
of
them
as
they
each
get
killed
off
in
stupid
or
heroic
ways
before
being
replaced
by
another
Helldiver
who
carries
on
the
story.
