Xbox is set to mark its 25th anniversary with the release of a gorgeous translucent green Xbox Series X, and now we might know the release date and the price. Oh god, the price!
According to the very reiable billbil-kun from Dealabs, the new console is going to drop on November 27, right in time for Black Friday. It’s worth noting this is different from the leaked release date of the 25th anniversary edition translucent green controller which billbil-kun also leaked, saying it would be dropping on October 20. Looks like Xbox is going for a staggered release.
Speaking of the controller, one will be included with the 25th anniversary console, so that’s nice.
And now for the big moment of terror: the new Xbox Series X will set you back a staggering €899.99. The US is expected to also be $899.99, according to billbil-kun, who notes that they got these details by “examing retailer backend data.”. No UK pricing has been confirmed, so I maintain hope that the official announcement will reveal we have to pay £20 and a box of Tetley teabags.
That’s about €100 euros more than a regular Xbox Series X, which in itself isn’t too bad of a premium for a limited edition, especially one that looks so damn sexy. No, the real probem is that console price’s are currently so high they might as well be a war crime.
For some fairly horrifying context, the original Xbox Series X launched in November 2020 with the same 1TB of storage for €499.99. If Dealabs’ information is correct, the Series X25 will cost €400 more than its launch-day equivalent—a staggering 80% increase. It’s even €250 more expensive than the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition was when that launched in 2024.
Current expectation is that Xbox will reveal all those details at GamesCom this week, so we don’t have long to wait to see if bill-bil kun is right. And usually he is.
