Microsoft To Announce New Halo Game This Week

Gaming journalist and knower-of-a-great-many-things Jason Schreier has backed up the numerous rumours that Microsoft and Halo Studios will announce a new Halo game this week at the Halo World Championship.

Halo Studios themselves have previously confirmed that they intended on showing off what they’ve been working on at the upcoming Halo World Championship, which takes place between October 24-26. However, they stopped short at confirming it would be a full Halo game, even if the hint was obvious.

Well, Schreier says it is indeed a new Halo title.

“Xbox’s best hope for a blockbuster game in recent years was 2021’s Halo Infinite, the latest entry in its most vital franchise,” writes Schreier, possibly while chugging coffee and staring at a whiteboard covered in string and pictures. “Despite some early accolades the game was ultimately seen as a failure and led to a complete overhaul of the studio behind it. Later this week, Microsoft will announce a new Halo release in an attempt to resuscitate the franchise.”

This may tie in with what Rebs Gaming, a notable Halo source, has been saying on his Youtube channel and what various other insiders have also mentioned. It’s widely believed that another remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is in the works, potentially running on the Halo: Reach engine with Unreal Engine 5 handling the graphics. It’s also said to feature sprinting – a very controversial choice – and various other changes.

It’s also believed that Virtous Abstraction is handling the development.

And then there have been hints at another Halo title also in the works, along with reports that at least one of the new Halo games is going to launch on PS5. Personally, my money is on the Halo: Combat Evolved remake.

Xbox man Phil Spencer also previously hinted at a new Halo game in 2026. He did not say it by name, but he did say that 2026 would have Gears of War: E-Day, the next Forza, Fable and “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning.”

Finally, let’s keep in mind that things may not be going smoothly at Halo Studios right now, as the team’s art director left recently and posted a message which seemed to hint that something was amiss.
