Marvel Rivals is off to a strong start

The
newest
free-to-play
sensation
has
just
performed
a
very
stylish
superhero
landing
on
Steam
and
the
initial
numbers
seem
promising.

Marvel
Rivals
comes
from
NetEase
and
boasts
a
pretty
impressive
roster
of
iconic
superheroes
from
the
Marvel
brand.
It
takes
a
lot
of
cues
from
the
likes
of
Overwatch,
which
means
it’s
also
entering
a
very
competitive
space.

And
yet
despite
the
waning
popularity
of
the
MCU
and
the
sheer
amount
of
competition
it
faces,
it
looks
like
Marvel
Rivals
is
off
to
a
good
start.

According
to
SteamDB
,
the
game
managed
to
hit
a
peak
concurrent
player
count
of

444,286

just
after
it
launched.
As
I
write
this
its
about
2pm
in
the
UK
and
it’s
sitting
at

257,810
.

These
numbers
don’t
include
both
Xbox
and
PlayStation
where
Marvel
Rivals
is
also
available.
NetEase
hasn’t
provided
any
official
player
counts
for
console,
although
I
imagine
it
would
be
safe
to
bet
that
the
game
has
managed
to
hit
over
a
million
concurrent
players
across
all
platforms.

The
positivity
doesn’t
end
there
either,
as
the
game
is
already
receiving
thousands
of
Steam
user
reviews.

Right
now,
it’s
over
7,000
and
growing,
with
a
“Mostly
Positive
rating”
which
in
this
day
and
age
of
rough
launches,
server
problems
and
more
is
kind
of
impressive.
People
seem
happy
with
the
the
game.
A
lot
of
the
reviews
focus
in
on
things
like

all
the
characters
being
unlocked
from
the
start

and
Battle
Passes
being
permanent
rather
than
timed
as
major
wins
for
the
game.

I’m
not
usually
into
hero-shooters
or
even
multiplayer
in
general
these
days,
but
I
think
I’m
going
to
jump
on
and
give
it
a
whirl.
After
all,
Spider-Man
is
my
favourite
hero,
so
I
gotta
go
see
what
the
Wall-Crawler
can
do,
don’t
I?
