A
notable
Mortal
Kombat
insider
has
stated
that
Mortal
Kombat
1’s
future
content
has
been
cancelled
following
poor
sales
of
the
Khaos
Reigns
expansion.
Reddit
user
_FateUnknown,
who
has
verified
insider
status
on
Mortalkombatleaks,
is
the
source
of
the
information.
The
story
begins
in
a
Reddit
thread
in
which
a
user
posted
about
whether
a
recent
Interloko
video
discussing
potential
DLC
fighters
for
Mortal
Kombat
1
was
accurate.
_FateUnknown
replied
by
saying,
“It
is
not.”
The
OP
asked
_FateUnknown
ifg
there
was
even
going
to
be
a
Kombat
Pack
3,
to
which
Unknown
replied
“no.”
The
OP
then
created
second
Reddit
thread
focusing
on
_FateUnknown’s
comments,
titling
it
“Guys….it’s
so
over.”
Our
insider
then
appeared
in
that
thread
to
offer
more
substantial
information.
“Kombat
pack
3
and
a
second
story
expansion
were
planned,”
said
_FateUnknown.
“All
cancelled
recently,
no
more
characters
after
kombat
pack
2.
A
kameo
or
two
might
make
it
since
there
has
been
work
done
on
them
but
i
dont
know
yet.”
When
asked
why
the
content
was
cancelled,
_FateUnknown
informed
fans
that
it
was
because
“Khaos
reigns
sold
poorly.”
Indeed,
developer
Netherealm
has
been
fairly
quite
about
Khaos
Reigns.
They
have
not
offered
any
information
on
how
well
it
sold.
Fans
did
pick
up
on
how
quickly
the
expansion
was
offered
at
a
discount
though,
a
potential
hint
that
it
wasn’t
selling
well
at
full
price.
_FateUnknown’s
claims
about
low
sales
would
not
be
surprising
though,
because
Netherealm
launched
the
expansion
for
£40/$50.
The
previous
story
expansion
Netherealm
made
for
Mortal
Kombat
11
was
priced
at
£34.99/$39.99,
which
many
fans
already
found
expensive.
However,
Aftermath
review
pretty
well
and
most
fans
were
quite
pleased
with
it.
In
comparison,
Khaos
Reigns
didn’t
review
as
well
and
fan
reception
was
lukewarm
at
best,
making
the
higher
price-tag
far
more
painful.
