It might not have won the battle for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, but Hollow Knight: Silksong is a massive success in terms of sales, and the game will only get better with a major new update next year that will cost absolutely nothing.

In a post on the game’s official website, developer Team Cherry cheerfully announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong has sold 7+ million copies across all platforms. And yes, that’s sales, not including players on Game Pass. That’s not just impressive for an indie game, that’s impressive for any game.

And the good news doesn’t stop there, because in the same post it was announced that fans can look forward to a big, completely free update launching next year. The expansion, titled Sea of Sorrow, promises new areas, bosses, tools and more.

“New areas, bosses, tools, and more! Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow releases.”
