What’s what coming over the hill? It’s October, shambling along like Frankenstein’s monster. And you know what that means, don’t you? Yup, more kinda free games via PlayStation Plus Essential!
As always, you need an active membership to claim these free games and to be able to play them, even once they are in your library. Speaking of which, don’t forget to hit the “add to library” button so that they’ll be available to play whenever you want.
The following games will be available from October 7.
October’s big game is a rather apt: Alan Wake 2, for PS5. Remedy’s sequel to the cult hit Alan Wake has struggled to find commercial success since releasing last year, but it otherwise scored extremely well with critics and players alike, with an 89 critic score and an 85 user score on Metacritic.
Personally, Alan Wake 2 has been sitting in my library since it launched. I keep meaning to get around to it and just never seem to. Don’t make my mistake.
The next game is Goat Simulator 3 for PS4 and PS5. Goats are already insane creatures, and the third game in the series ramps up the already ludicrous, buggy, over-the-top insanity even higher.
Fun fact: as a kid I was a friend with a goat called Beesch (I’m honestly not sure how the name was spelled, so I’m going with that) which absolutely hated my dad. He jokingly said one day that he was going to make a goat-skin drum, and since that day Beesch would try to murder him every time he left the car when we visited. Good times.
And finally, we have Cocoon for PS4 and PS5. This one slipped be by completely, so I’ve enjoyed learning about this. Cocoon is a trippy little puzzle-adventure from one of the minds behind Limbo and Inside, where you’re literally hopping between worlds sealed inside glowing orbs. If that sounds interesting, now is the best time to try it out.
